Doctor of Medicine (MD)
Huys Scholar 2024

I am deeply honored and grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Huys Scholarship for the 2024-2025 academic year. This generous support will not only aid my educational journey but also empower me to contribute meaningfully to addressing critical healthcare challenges facing Armenia and the broader Armenian community.

Armenia faces significant challenges in its healthcare system, including a shortage of skilled medical professionals and limited access to advanced surgical technologies. The need for innovative solutions to improve patient care and health outcomes is urgent. A critical area where this need is most pronounced is in the development and implementation of cutting-edge surgical techniques and technologies that can address complex medical conditions efficiently and effectively.

Through the Doctor of Medicine program at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, I will gain invaluable knowledge, skills, and networks. My academic background in medical laboratory sciences and molecular engineering, combined with my passion for surgery, positions me to bridge the gap between clinical practice and technological innovation. My experiences shadowing renowned surgeons, such as Dr. Scellig Stone at Boston Children’s Hospital, have deepened my understanding of the art and science of surgery and inspired me to push the boundaries of medical practice through engineering.

The Huys Scholarship will enable me to pursue advanced research in surgical innovation, focusing on the development of biodegradable polymer scaffolds and biomaterial engineering. These technologies promise to revolutionize surgical outcomes by reducing infection rates and improving tissue regeneration. My goal is to apply these innovations to the Armenian healthcare system, providing training and resources to local medical professionals and fostering an environment of continuous improvement and collaboration.

By leveraging the education and networks I will obtain, I aim to establish a center for surgical innovation in Armenia. This center will serve as a hub for research, education, and collaboration, bringing together experts from around the world to develop and implement groundbreaking medical technologies. In doing so, we can elevate the standard of care in Armenia and inspire the next generation of Armenian medical professionals to pursue careers in medicine and innovation.

I am committed to utilizing the opportunities afforded by the Huys Scholarship to make a lasting impact on the Armenian healthcare system and contribute to the well-being of humanity. I believe that by advancing medical practices and sharing knowledge, we can create a healthier and more equitable world.

Thank you once again for your support and belief in my vision.

I am aware that Huys Foundation is granting the Huys Scholarship to me with the anticipation of my good faith pursuit and implementation of the projects and undertakings described in this letter, to which I hereby commit.
